Context and background:

Nommon is a research-intensive technology company that provides decision support tools and consulting services for organisational intelligence and policy assessment. For this purpose, we integrate supporting databases with analytical and simulation models that make use of a variety of mathematical techniques.

Nommon works in sectors whose performance emerges from the complex interaction of interdependent policies, social trends, technologies, and market conditions. We are particularly active in the field of aviation, where we will soon be launching several research projects aimed to explore different applications of data science and complex systems theory to air transport planning and management.

As part of our expansion plans for 2016, we are looking for a data scientist (0-2 years’ experience) to join our Aviation
Business Unit in Madrid.

Job description:

The candidate will join a multidisciplinary team working in a variety of R&D and consulting projects in the field of air transport and air traffic management.

His/her main responsibilities will include:

• develop and test methods, algorithms and tools for the integration, analysis and visualisation of data originated from multiple distributed sources;
• develop simulation models and decision support tools;
• contribute to the definition of innovative products, services, and business models.

Qualifications and skills:

• MSc/PhD in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or any other relevant scientific field.
• Outstanding academic record.
• Solid mathematical background.
• Strong algorithmic, programming and computational problem solving skills.
• Marked taste for interdisciplinary work at the intersection of engineering and the social sciences.
• Excellent English and Spanish oral and written communication skills.

Nice to have, but not indispensable:
• Knowledge of the aviation sector.
• Experience/knowledge in statistical analysis and machine learning.
• Experience/knowledge in quantitative methods, preferably with modelling experience.
• Experience/knowledge in data visualisation.
• Experience/knowledge in development and/or use of computational simulation tools.
• Experience/knowledge in programming in C, C++, R, Matlab, Python, or Java.
